This is a post that I made on the Delta Goodrem forums and I thought you might be interested in it:
Ok so I was watching the movie Flight 93 which retells the story about the passengers that fought back against Terror and stopped the flight from hitting the Capitol, or the white house, or whatever the target was (we may never know what it was). But anyways, the movie was so suspenseful that it got me thinking. And usually every 9/11 movie or documentary gets me thinking. I have analyzed tons of stuff relating to this for years, and I am just so fascinated with it (not that it is a good thing, but because it is apart of our history now.) Also, the inaugoration of Obama got me thinking about this too.
So I have told myself that the plans on Sept. 11 were ingenuis. The terrorists planned it out so thoughroly. We all know that it was years in the making. They used the one thing at the time that no one would have dreamed of using...the air; planes. I don't think anybody thought that people would use the planes and use them as one big weapon to strike out something. I guess that is why the security for planes wasn't that great. Once the planes were up, and it was taken over, there was no way that the terrorists could be stopped. Sure, the planes could have been taken down, but the call had to be made by the president. And since he was taken away, the call couldn't be made. And the pentagon gave them limited resources to secure the air, and ground (and then they had their own attack to worry about). And then of course, nobody really knew that they were planning to take the planes down and hit something. They just thought it was a normal Hijacking. So while the officials fiddled around, the terrorists got closer to their goal.
Another thing that was so smart was that they picked targets that would keep America from functioning. Our financial system (World trade centers), our military (pentagon), and our government (the capitol, but the target was not hit due to 93's ambush). I think that if they really wanted to terrorize the nation, they would have destroyed some sort of symbol to show that our freedom comes at a price (such as the statue of liberty or the white house. The World trade center was also a symbol...a symbol of world associations and trading.). Also, if they wanted to creat some more chaos, they could have created a state of panic. By trapping a large amount of people in one area. And the only place for that would be NYC. Destroying the bridges and tunnels in and out of the city would cause millions of people to go into panic. And it would have taken hours, if not days, to find a way to transport people off of the island. And there is no telling what would have happened if they were trapped, while half of the city was falling down.
Also, they picked the perfect time to do it. And that is because we had a new president. Even though I think he did all he could to protect the nation, I'm sure that he was took totally off guard. And I'm sure that it made the situation harder for a new president than it was for a older and more experienced one. So anyways, that was my analysis. So now I have a few questions:Now that we are in a time with a new president, do you think that we are more vulnerable for an attack? I know that the security procedures haven't changed, but do you think that they are more interested in attacking now or later? And if so, what do you think they would do since their most secret weapon is now under tight protocols. Or do you think that is even possible now? Also, on the day that Obama was sworn in, thousands of troops and National Guards were sent to D.C to prevent an attack. With that area air lock tight, do you think that it could have weakened the other big cities for an attack? And also, due to the toxic air that was in the city that day, more people that was there are coming forth saying that they are getting lung cancer or some sort of cancer, relating to those attacks.
Next, do you think that the attacks on WTC was the first step into our failing economy? Lets think about it. The WTC was the center of our buisnesses. Even though the companies had a backup center, billions or trillions of dollars was lost. And on the day that the stock exchange reopened another few trillion was lost (making it one of the worst days on wallstreet.). They should have kept it closed for a longer time period...but who knows if it was going to help. That day has left a huge scar on our economy for the past 8 years, and i'm thinking that it was the first step to a bigger problem (and nobody was able to grab hold of the situation until it was too late). And because of this, it has trickled down to other countries, making this a world wide problem.
BTW...I just wanted to say that I think that Australia is the most peaceful place on earth. Of all my 17 years on this earth, I have never heard of a conflict. And now, they don't even mention if that nation if in the same financial crisis. But of course, you guys may have the same problems, and I just don't hear it.
Well that is all folks. I hope you enjoied this bit of opinion. I will post a regular blog up later today.
