Thunder: Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Only a Dream

It was a beautiful morning. The sun was slowly trying to rise. The image looked like a classic painting painted from long ago. Not many would appreciate the image. The cool crisp air was just beginning to warm up. The city of Canton was quiet, but that wouldn’t last for long.

Then the image slowly pointed towards the Canton Financial Center, the tallest building in Canton. The tower left a shadow all over the city. The people of Canton took great pride in it. It symbolized the city’s financial stability.

Then the image started to rise. It felt like going up an elevator. Looking from above, you could see a figure on top, a man. Who was he, and why was he standing on the edge?

And then the image got closer to the man. The identity of the man would be revealed. Only a few more seconds. The image slowly got to the top of his boots and then…

Lance Cooper suddenly arose from his bed, by the sound of his alarm clock. His breathing was heavy, sounding like he just ran a mile on the school track. He was trembling from the excitement, sweat also gleaming off his forehead and chest. The exciting dream that he had was just unbearable.

What a dream, he thought. But he couldn’t help but wonder. Who was that man? Why was he there? What did it all mean? A vision maybe? It brought so many questions to his mind. It felt so real. He knew it meant something.

But he soon put it out of his head. It was only a dream. Nothing more. He soon turned his head to look at the object that ruined the best moment of his life. It was seven o’clock. He had slept in. He would have to rush through getting dressed and eat breakfast so that he could make it to school on time.

He ran into his closet to find a set of clothes thrown on the floor. They looked clean enough for him. He put them on and ran on to the next task.

Since Lance was one of the most popular guys in the school, his “friends” expected a lot out of him. He had to have the best type of clothes, the best type of car, best phone, and best of everything. But there was something different about Lance than the other “preps”. He cared more about the people around him, than he cared about himself, which was rarely seen in the eyes of a very popular person.

And when he was helping the “other” people, he wasn’t just helping his friends, who could turn on him any minute, but the people who were less fortunate, more caring. The people who couldn’t quite get enough money for lunch, or when they couldn’t get a ride home, or someone who needed a friend in a time of need. So you could say that he was a friend with everybody.

Lance looked at himself in the mirror. He looked good, he thought to himself. He had his beach necklace around his neck, which fit snug, and his hair was spiked just perfectly. His black hair just glowed with the hair gel, and the light that was just beaming on it. He also picked up the ring that he took off his finger to wash his hands, and he put it on. He was finally ready.
