Thunder: Chapter 1.5

He quickly ran downstairs. But when he reached the bottom of the stairs, he stopped. He spotted the picture that always made his skin burn. It was a picture of his mother and father and himself, looking so happy, and filled with love.

The picture was taken a few years back. It was on their anniversary. It was taken at the same place they met each other. Lance was also in the picture. They were one happy family. Lance’s parents first met at the beachside of Canton, and they connected automatically, just by looking into each others eyes . It wasn’t a few months until they got married. Not too long after that, they had Lance.

Lance’s father, Jason, was a very well respected doctor (and a very wealthy one I might add). He was a tall man, and had the black, greasy hair that Lance inherited. He was a very bold person, and in a way, he was fearful. But he never did show anger.

And his mother, Carrie, was a beautiful woman, who made every man wish that she was married to him instead of his wife. She was a beautiful blonde headed woman, with bright blue eyes, which Lance also inherited and an attractive smile. She always was happy, and cared for her husband and her son dearly. She was also a very respectable principal at the Mars Canton High School.

They were the perfect family. They had wealth, and love. It seemed like nothing could go wrong. Then when Lance was eleven, his father up and about walked out on them. He said that he was looking for something more. But that didn’t seem like the true story.

According to the word on the street, he was involved in one of the big drug scandals of the time in Canton. And they also said that he had a few romantic flings on the side. And that he managed to flee the city before he faced a lot of trouble. Carrie wasn’t really surprised about this. She suspected such things. The only thing she now was concerned about now was for the well being of her son.

Carrie was soon in full control of the Cooper estate. And that was enough to live happily with her son. Four years later, Carrie decided to return to the job that she enjoyed doing so much. It was also a way to keep an eye on Ron now that he was at Mars Canton High.

She and Lance never heard from Jason again after he fled the city. People said that he died of drug over dose, while some said that he changed his name, to escape the criticism of how he betrayed his family and his life that he worked so hard to build.

Before Jason left unannounced, he spoke to Lance. He surprised him with a ring. Lance was surprised. It was sterling silver, and in the middle was a bird-like creature, with a orange gem in the middle.

“What is it?” Lance asked.

“A phoenix”, he replied. And then he continued after seeing his son amused. “Legend says that the phoenix would rise out of the ashes, and live again.” Lance looked confused, but he continued on. “You will understand in time.” He got up and left. That was the last real conversation that Lance and Jason had together.
