Thunder: Chapter 4.5

Chapter 4.5-Neil's Bar

They left the building, carrying the large boxes to a white van. They disguised it as a bakery business. The sign read: Bettsy’s Cookies. And there was a picture human cookie figures, looking all dressed up in icing and other sugary sweets. Two of the men climbed into the front, while the others climbed into the back. The van started, and they were off.

The ride to the docks was so far, a quiet one. The men wanted Nosaj to calm down, after the anger he grew at the bar. If they could ship this shipment of drugs successfully, then they could finally break away from Nosaj’s organization.

They knew that they couldn’t break away a minute too soon. Because the people who did break away early, Nosaj always seemed to find them and kill them. They didn’t want the same fate.

One of the men finally broke the silence. “Uh, boss,” he started. He got the attention of all of the other men, including Nosaj. “I know you said that we had to ship the drugs tonight, but-“ he soon cut off, afraid to ask. “May I ask why?”

Nosaj was angered by this. But he took a deep breath, and spoke. “I kind of thought that you would be able to figure it out on your own.” He looked at the men, and then threw the one who spoke, the latest issue of The Canton Gazette.

The men all looked at the front page. Then Nosaj continued. “As you can read, we are the top on the wanted list in Canton. If we are able to ship the drugs and get out with no problem, it has to be tonight, not a day too late. By tomorrow morning, the police will be flooding the streets, and they will try to find us, and we can get caught.”

The men all nodded their head, showing that they understood. Then Nosaj continued. “And as you can also see, those mystery detectives seem to be really good. And we need to do this job before they are good enough to detect us.”

The men all nodded once again. Then Nosaj got lost in his own train of thought. He knew that he was in a city were he could be easily detected. And he did not know about the mystery people. Who were they? And how much of a threat were they.

He chuckled. If they were truly a threat to him, then the police would be welcoming them with open arms. So they had to be as secretive as he was. But that did not prove that they were not powerful. He brought his focus back to reality. They had arrived at the docks.
